使用 worth doing 时应该注意的几个问题

我们在阅读英语资料或者做英语练习、试题时，会经常遇到 worth doing 这种词语搭配形式。很多学生在做与此有关的练习或者试题时经常出错。

在使用 worth doing 这种词语搭配形式时，应该注意以下几个问题：

1. 这里的 doing 是传统语法中的动名词。有的词典（如《韦氏高阶英汉双解词典》）认为 worth 是介词，有的词典（如《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第9版）

认为 worth 是形容词。不能用动名词作主语 worth 作表语。例如，不能说：Talking to Joe is worth.

2. be worth doing（doing是及物动词）后面有时候需要跟宾语，有时候又不能跟宾语。具体用法是：如果主语是doing所示动作的承受者（即doing和主语在逻辑上是动宾关系），doing 后面就不能跟宾语（因为句子的主语实际上是doing 的逻辑宾语）；如果用it作先行主语（即形式主语），则doing后面应该跟宾语。例如：

The car isn’t worth repairing. (= It isn’t worth repairing the car.) 这辆车不值得修了。(不能说：The car isn’t worth repairing it. 或者The car isn’t worth to be repaired.)

Joe’s worth talking to. (= It’s worth talking to Joe.) 跟乔谈一谈是值得的。

Is Leicester worth visiting? ( = Is it worth visiting Leicester ?) 莱斯特值得一游吗？

Do you think the car is worth buying? 你觉得这辆车值得买吗？

It is worth noting / mentioning that his father and mother are also doctors. 值得注意 / 一提的是，他的父母也是医生。

This book is not worth reading. 这本书不值得读。

It’s not worth fixing the car. = It’s not worth it to fix the car . = The car is not worth fixing. 这辆车不值得修了。

3. 可以说well worth ，不能说 very worth。例如：

This idea is well worth considering. 这个想法很值得考虑。（不能说：This idea is very worth considering.）
